absorb

During Lesley and Brendan's wedding I tried really hard to absorb the beauty of it all. And it was truly beautiful.

breaking

FB leads to only a few degrees of separation. One of my friends is friends with a relative of a family that I used to be friends with. I went to church with them. They ended up leaving the Church because they had to sell their house because they couldn't afford it and they felt embarrassed that they had made bad financial decisions. There may well have been more that was going on that I didn't know about. And that's fine. It just seemed odd to me at the time that they would leave when they had just started making GOOD financial decisions. Like moving to a house they could afford. But maybe the loss of the house was too painful for them. I don't know.
Not that this has anything to do with what I wanted to write about.
This family has 2 children. When I knew them the kids were teenagers. Now they are in their 20s. The kids as teenagers were adorable. The son had a heart condition so always looked a bit pale but they were good kids. Probably still are. But the son (from his FB) seems to have discovered alcohol. And you know what?- looks really ugly with it. It is heartbreaking to see such a life of promise be derailed like this. I will be praying for him.

Transformation

Al spoke today about the man from the Gadarenes who had the legion of demons and how he was freed by Christ.

I wrote this afterwards:

From dark to light
In the middle of the night
Your freedom comes ashore
My eyes saw you but did not understand
Could not comprehend
You came with Your healing ways
You saw deep within me
You knew the way to freedom
Who I was is not who I am
The way I see is all new
You have brought transformation
You are redemption
Things will never be the same.

Help us to live the transformation day-to-day
Remind us that You change us and that we are never the same

Theological discussions with an 8 year old

As I was putting James to bed tonight I had this discussion with James:

James: Duncan doesn't go to Church, but he knows God.
Me: Oh, does he have a relationship with God?
J: No, but he's heard people talk about God.
Me: Do you have a relationship with God?
J: YES!
Me: It's different hearing about someone and having a relationship with them.
J: I'm going to marry Duncan and I will go to Church and he can stay home. We'll need someone to play hockey anyway.
Me: Wouldn't it be nicer if he came with you to Church?
J: Well, someone would have to play hockey.
Me: What about after you die, wouldn't it be nice if you could play with Duncan there?
J: Duncan is really fair at school, really good, so he should be in heaven.
Me: I'm glad Duncan is so good but Jesus said that noone gets to God except through Him.
(Then James is quiet for a minute and falls asleep)
Interesting talk though.
